The Maldives is the trip Dubai does best. Four hours in the air, no meaningful time difference, and a seaplane transfer that turns the arrival into part of the holiday rather than a chore. It is also the destination where the gap between a well-planned trip and a badly-planned one is widest — the wrong atoll in the wrong month is an expensive mistake.

The Maldives packages we actually sell

Sample itinerary — the six-night overwater shape

Day 1 · Morning flight from Dubai, land at Malé, seaplane out across the atolls. Check in by mid-afternoon, and do nothing else.

Day 2 · House reef in the morning while the water is flattest. Long lunch. The afternoon is the point of the trip.

Day 3 · Boat day — manta or whale shark depending on atoll and season, sandbank picnic on the way back.

Day 4 · Spa and nothing. Sunset dhow with the resort's marine biologist if they run one.

Day 5 · Fishing at dawn or a second dive, then the fine-dining night.

Day 6 · Last morning on the reef, seaplane back, evening flight to Dubai.

What's included — and what isn't

Which atoll, and why it matters more than the resort

North and South Malé Atoll is speedboat distance — cheapest to reach, busiest water, and the right choice on a four-night trip where transfer time eats the holiday.

Baa Atoll is the manta and whale shark corridor, and a UNESCO biosphere reserve. Seaplane in. Worth it between June and October when Hanifaru Bay is running.

The far south — Addu, Gaafu — is a domestic flight plus a boat, so it only makes sense at six nights or more. In return you get water almost nobody else is in.

When to go from the UAE

November to April is the dry northeast monsoon: flat water, reliable sun, and the highest rates of the year. December into early January is the peak of the peak.

May to October is the southwest monsoon — short heavy showers rather than all-day rain, noticeably cheaper, and the manta and whale shark season in Baa. If you can accept an occasional grey afternoon, this is where the value is.

The one window to avoid booking late is Dubai's school holidays, when every UAE family is looking at the same villas.

How much is a Maldives package from Dubai?

From around AED 8,400 per person twin-share for four nights in a beach villa with flights and speedboat transfers. An overwater villa with a seaplane transfer starts near AED 14,900 for six nights, and a private-island or residence trip starts near AED 34,000. Season moves these numbers more than any other factor.

How long is the flight from Dubai to the Maldives?

About four hours direct to Malé, with no meaningful time difference. You then take either a speedboat, a domestic flight, or a seaplane to the resort — and the seaplane leg is one of the best short flights anywhere.

Do UAE residents need a visa for the Maldives?

No. The Maldives issues a free 30-day visa on arrival to every nationality, provided you hold a confirmed booking and a return ticket. It is one of the simplest entries available from the UAE.

When is the cheapest time to go to the Maldives from Dubai?

May to October, during the southwest monsoon. Rates fall substantially, the weather is showery rather than washed out, and it is also manta and whale shark season in Baa Atoll. The trade is an occasional grey afternoon.

Is the seaplane transfer worth the extra cost?

Usually yes, and not only for access. Seaplanes fly low over the atolls in daylight and the view is the thing people remember. The constraint is that they only operate in daylight, so a late arrival into Malé can mean an overnight in the capital.
